Plastics in Building and Construction – Future Challenges & Solutions
On 24th June, European Plastics Converters and PlasticsEurope will hold the conference “EU Investing in its future – Plastics construction solutions”.
During the session “Skills matter!” Czech MEP Martina Dlabajová will be presenting her own-initiative report on better matching skills with jobs, highlighting the four key points that would help achieve a competitive labour market. Ms. Dlabajová MEP sits on the European Parliament Committee for Social Affairs and Employment and won the 2015 DODS MEP Award in the category “Employment and Social affairs”.
Richard Thommeret, Strategic Marketing Director for Building & Construction, Energy and Environment at Corporate level for Solvay, will share insights on how the urban challenges of the future can be addressed using smart and innovative plastics solutions. He will show how the various urban challenges – populations increase, urbanisation, poor access to clean water, etc. – influence modern building and construction projects and how plastics can be part of the solution. In addition to his work at Solvay, Richard is also Professor at La Cambre (University of Brussels) lecturing Plastics Technology in Industrial Design & Interior Architecture master classes, and author of a book “Plastiques & Design” Eyrolles Ed.
Frédéric Midy, CEO EMEA of Aliaxis and Chairman of EuPC’s Building & Construction Division will be giving an overview on plastics in building and construction, covering a wide range of products and solutions such as pipes, windows, floor and roof covering that combine innovative aspects with design. Mr. Midy will dive into the challenges of the plastics industry as it faces certain trends such as population growth and globalization of the market.
The conference will be an excellent opportunity to learn how the plastics industry contributes to the main objectives of the new European Commission such as growth, jobs, investment and energy efficiency. The conference is part of the EU Sustainable Energy Week.
