Press Release: Final stretch of Placard

Results to be presented early 2017

The project is in its final stretch and will conclude at the end of 2016. The final report will be released early 2017 and its results are promising.  Testing with external companies continue and further results were available during the final meeting held on at Serichim in Torviscosa, Italy.

The project aims at producing a new bio-based plasticizer for soft PVC. It is obtained by chemical modification of cardanol, an industrial grade oil obtained by vacuum distillation of cashew nut shell liquid.

A stable production process was reported by Serichim which will achieve a production of 1000 kg of Placard by the end of the project. Meanwhile, tests performed at Unisalento presented a good plasticizing effect of Placard when compared to other bio-based plasticizers. Further results were presented by KOMMI at an industrial scale production which show improvements on the production of Placard when combined with PVC.

Additional tests at the exploitation phase of the European Project triggered further interest in different actors in the supply chain which will further investigate the use of Placard. The Consortium remains positive regarding the future of the project after its finalization.
