Unified Framework for Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)

A Collective Commitment by EPSM Members

The members of EPSM (Engineering Polymer Shapes for Machining Association, a Sector Group of European Plastics Converters | EuPC) — Ensinger GmbH, GEHR, Licharz GmbH, Mitsubishi Chemical Advanced Materials, Röchling Industrial, and Zell Materials GmbH Engineering Plastics — have come together to establish a unified framework for conducting Life Cycle Assessments (LCA) of technical plastic stock shapes. This collective commitment represents a major step forward in promoting greater transparency, comparability, and accountability across the industry.

By aligning on a standardised method to conduct LCAs, EPSM members are not only fostering trust within the market but also empowering customers to make better-informed decisions based on verifiable environmental data. This initiative will support the broader transition to more sustainable production and procurement practices while reinforcing the credibility of technical plastics in a world increasingly focused on carbon impact.

Consistency in LCA calculations ensures that the environmental performance of products can be measured and partially compared, driving innovation and continuous improvement across the value chain. The leadership shown by Ensinger GmbH, GEHR, Licharz GmbH, Mitsubishi Chemical Advanced Materials, Röchling Industrial, and Zell Materials GmbH Engineering Plastics sets a strong precedent for the industry and paves the way for more impactful sustainability initiatives in the future.

EPSM is proud to support and coordinate this pivotal work for the plastics industry.
